MiCA Glossary
Key regulatory terms and definitions for MiCA compliance. Each entry references the relevant MiCA article or ESMA/EBA guidance.
- CASP — Crypto-Asset Service Provider
Any legal person or undertaking whose occupation or business is the provision of one or more crypto-asset services to clients on a professional basis (MiCA Art. 3(1)(15)).
- ART — Asset-Referenced Token
A type of crypto-asset that is not an e-money token and that purports to maintain a stable value by referencing another value or right or combination thereof (MiCA Art. 3(1)(6)).
- EMT — E-Money Token
A type of crypto-asset that purports to maintain a stable value by referencing the value of one official currency (MiCA Art. 3(1)(7)).
- MiCA Whitepaper
A document containing mandatory information about an issuer and a crypto-asset offering, required under MiCA Art. 6 before any public offer or admission to trading.
- MiCA Title II
Covers crypto-assets other than ARTs and EMTs. Sets out whitepaper requirements, issuer obligations, and public offer rules for utility tokens and similar assets.
- MiCA Title V
Covers authorisation and operating conditions for Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASPs), including conduct of business rules, organisational requirements, and prudential standards.
- Article 6 — Whitepaper content
MiCA Art. 6 specifies the mandatory information that every crypto-asset whitepaper must contain: issuer identity, project description, rights attached, risks, and technology details.
- RTS / ITS
Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS) and Implementing Technical Standards (ITS) issued by ESMA and EBA under MiCA mandate, specifying detailed compliance requirements.
